Losing 20 lives a day is 20 lives too many. Enough is not being done to properly treat veterans and their mental health. Expanding services and ensuring all veterans have access to proper resources is a critical component to eliminating these tragic outcomes.
While the U.S. government acknowledges the high risk of veteran suicide, more efforts need to be made and legislation passed to ensure all veterans receive adequate and affordable mental healthcare.
Greater awareness and education about veteran mental health is imperative to finding effective solutions. Educating the public and veterans about the warning signs and the available treatment for suicide prevention is necessary for improvements to be made.
